Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover anything he possibly could about the game. He would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative feedback from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
He started competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and an eternal passion for poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil admits to making blunders in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Although Phil has won some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
