The origins of the phrase "poker nuts" are unsure even though it is thought to have come from old jargon which means "delightful point, practice or experience". It is really a "delightful thing" of course, because in Hold em the poker nuts could be the ideal possible hands that you are able to have at any level in the game.
If you might have the nuts, you can’t be defeated…at that point in the hand. This will be the crucial factor that a lot of unskilled gamblers fail to consider, the nuts can move from one player to another along with your side which was the nuts previous on can end up being smashed!

Mike bets as he knows he has got the nuts except he wants to extract the max cash from the table so he maintains his wager low sufficient to get called. You even now think you are winning using the straight, in fact the Ace has strengthened that opinion as you now reckon Mike probably has an Ace in his hands and perhaps even two pairs.
He has fallen into your trap! Or so you believe.
The river is dealt and it’s the five of hearts. This can be a blow to you as you will find now 4 hearts on view, so anyone with a heart is defeating you with a flush. Mike is happy together with the 5 as he even now feels he’s succeeding using the top flush, even though his competitors might also have produced a flush and feel they’re winning. Amy obviously would be the real winner as she has just manufactured the nuts with 4 5 spades, her four of the variety can only be beaten by a directly flush or a greater 4 of the kind. There aren’t enough connected hearts showing around the table to make a straight flush and there is not yet another pair showing so it can be impossible to generate 4 of a kind.
Amy wins the pot even though you and Mike reflect on what need to have been.
Both of you held the poker nuts at 1 level in the casino game except failed to realise that the poker nuts – as well as your fortunes – in Holdem can change completely with one turn of the card.
