Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only participant to achieve closing game in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best gamblers around the world. While competing in internet poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. He frequently participates in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus generally buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all-in. I believe Hansen is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has absolutely no reason to play at the table with the min buy in.
Playing for the minimum takes most of the ability out of deep stack poker. Gus is presumed to be one of the greatest poker players in the world but he cannot buy in for the total dollar value. I think television can alter our perception of the real world sometimes. The best poker players in the world might just be players you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be found participating in net poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in high stakes omaha hi-low and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his talents in money rounds?
