Omaha Hi Low: Basic Outline

[ English ]

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most difficult but favored poker games. It’s a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for play from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once obscure game, has grown in popularity so amazingly.

Omaha 8 or better begins like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to each player. A round of betting follows in which players can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are handed out, this is called the flop. Another round of betting happens. After all the gamblers have either called or dropped out, an additional card is revealed on the turn. an additional sequence of wagering follows at which point the river card is revealed. The players will need to make the best high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is the point where some entrants get flustered. Unlike Texas Holdem, in which the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player must utilize exactly three cards from the board, and precisely 2 cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot may be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just what it sounds like. It is the strongest possible hand out of everyone’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the very same approach in almost every poker game.

A lower hand is more complex, but really free’s up the play. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that can be made, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there’s no lower hand presented, the higher hand wins the whole pot.

While it seems complicated at first, following a couple of hands you will be agile enough to get the basic nuances of the game with ease. Since you have players wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as so many cards are being used at once, Omaha/8 offers an amazing assortment of wagering options and owing to the fact that you have numerous individuals trying for the high, along with a few trying for the low hand. If you prefer a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha/8.
