Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve closing poker table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a large pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world. While gambling on net poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. He frequently plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen frequently buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I know Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless he is penniless, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the table with the minimum buy in.
Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the ability out of deep stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be one of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total amt.. I think television can alter our perception of the real world at times. The best players anywhere in the world could be players you have will not have heard of before. Gus can be found playing internet poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in big stakes omaha/8 and hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his talents in cash games?
