Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the planet by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the detrimental feedback from other people kill his goal of being one of the best poker players in the world.
He started playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing passion for poker. Phil says that he’s learning every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and always strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
