Howard Lederer was born into in a family of five in which he liked playing numerous card games when he was young. He found himself becoming really aggressive in these card games while playing his father. After finishing Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to place higher education on hold for a bit and moved to New York to play some formidable chess. While playing chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s initial two years were rough as he played countless hours and lose most times. He made some extra cash by becoming an assistant for the poker players. He believed he could improve his game by adjusting his life outside of poker. He brought about an attempt to get more sleep and focus attention more on poker.
The real advancement in his abilities happened when he started wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the best players would frequently compete against each other. Howard had access into a number of the greatest minds in chess. With their help, Howard would sharpen his logical thinking techniques. Howard used these strategy ideas in the game of NL hold’em.
Howard Lederer also helped his sister Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie was a superb student of poker as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the proper choice. Howard Lederer told Annie to move out to Las Vegas and compete in the WSOP competition. Annie Duke is one of the best women players the poker world has ever seen. Howard headed to Vegas in 1993 and competed in money games for the following 10 years. When the WPT grew in popularity, he decided to play more tournaments.
