NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His papa showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the detrimental feedback from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

He began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching period and winning was not a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable love for poker. He states that he’s learning every day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
