Net High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only one to make it to the closing poker table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. He won a large pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest bettors in the world. While betting on online poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He often plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus generally buys in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I believe Hansen is a great poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is penniless, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the game with the minimum buy-in.

Buying in for the min takes a majority of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is accepted to be 1 of the greatest poker players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amount. I think tv can skew our perception of the real world sometimes. The greatest poker players in the world could be guys you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen wagering on net poker on Full Tilt. He normally participates in big stakes omaha/8 and hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in cash games?
