Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker competitor on the planet by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover every little thing he could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative feedback from others annihilate his ambition of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.
Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated a number of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every day and is very abashed about his success. He knows he makes errors in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
