Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve closing game in three of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a huge pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best gamblers around the world. While playing net poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly participates in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He waits for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I know Hansen is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has absolutely no reason to play at the game with the min buy in.
Playing for the min takes a majority of the ability out of deep stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be one of the best players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amt.. I believe television can skew our perception of the real world at times. The greatest poker players in the world might be players you have never heard of. Gus can be seen playing online poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in high stakes omaha/8 and hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his abilities in money games?
