Net High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only participant to make it to the final game in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a big pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest players in the world. While betting on net poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus regularly participates in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus more often than not buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then goes all in. I accept that Hansen is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is bankrupt, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the table with the minimum buy-in.

Buying in for the min takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is presumed to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full amt.. I think television can alter our view of the real world at times. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world may be players you have will not have heard of. Gus can be seen competing in web poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in big stakes omaha/8 and Holdem. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in money games?
